The Expand a Sign Year End Braai was held at Coaker House this past Wednesday and was a massive success. A host of fun-filled activities were planned for the staff, including an awards ceremony and a lucky prize draw which everybody was looking forward to.
The venue looked great thanks to our amazing cleaning ladies who did a stellar job whipping the place into shape. Natasha, Kirsty, Elaine and Anne organized the seating, put up the decorations and arranged the gifts for the prize draw. Don, Les and a few of the management staff were there beforehand, slaving away at the grills to make sure that the food was ready on time. It was awesome to see everyone working together in the true spirit of YES WE CAN. We truly are One Team with One Vision.
The festivities kicked off at 2pm and the staff started trickling in and taking their seats. Everyone was visibly excited and couldn’t wait to get started. The YES WE CAN Staff video was shown and everyone enjoyed finally seeing themselves on video after a month of shooting, singing and dancing in front of the camera. After an intro from Kirsty about the order of events for the day the food was served and everyone tucked in and enjoyed a hearty braai.
With bellies full we moved on to the next item on the agenda, Don’s “Special Awards” which have become an Expand a Sign tradition. Each year Don selects a few staff members to pick on for funny events or character traits displayed throughout the year. These are always well received and the staff took great joy in laughing at some of the managers who fell target to Don’s infamous awards.
Expand a Sign has a proud history of rewarding loyal staff members and this year was no different. We moved on to certificates of attendance and long service awards. One of the highlights was an award to Premie Asokamuniar, from the accounts department, who has worked with the Bailey family since before the formation of Expand a Sign, a relationship that spans more than 25 years!
The final item on the list was the most highly anticipated activity – the lucky prize draw, which was run by Don and Les. All the toys and gifts were donated by the staff, who really outdid themselves, giving generously and exceeding all expectations. A few of the hot prizes up for grabs included three bicycles, a Nintendo Wii gaming console and an iPod Shuffle! We can all be really proud to be part of such a wonderful, giving family.
With the gifts chosen and all the food eaten, the day came to an end. We watched the Expand a Sign Staff video once more and everyone danced and cheered as they made their way home after a great afternoon spent together.
