Charity Begins At Home

We are all familiar with the saying “charity begins at home”, but with today’s fast pace and ever demanding workloads, the lines between work and home are increasingly blurring.

We spend so much time at the office that we might as well call it home. It might not always be easy to give more than you are asked but it is important not to forget how fortunate we are. It is with this in mind that Expand a Sign has opted to give to their ‘family’, the employees, first. Why look outwards without first helping out those who are closest to you, the people who make our company great?

And, what is a company without a great leader? Donovan is a firm believer in giving, and aside from leading by example and aligning himself to various charitable organisations, he encourages staff and those around him to do the same. From Mandela Day to Rhino Conservation, there are several charities that continue to receive support from Donovan on a personal capacity and from Expand a Sign as a company.

A common misconception is that money is the best contribution one can make but we forget the most precious commodity of them all – time! You can’t really put a value on it, it is one of those things that once gone can never really be recovered. Which is why giving of your time is a selfless act that is greatly appreciated. No matter how small it may seem to you, giving 5 or 10 minutes of your time can mean the world to someone else.

After all – it’s the little things that count the most!

This spirit of giving extends far beyond our walls though, as was proven by our very own Kent and Wade who successfully completed the grueling Amashova Cycle race on single speed postman bikes and raised over R20 000 for Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer! Keep an eye out for a blog from the boys on their experience.

In closing, remember these poignant words from Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
